Boating - There's lots of water for boating around Boca Grand, including the wide open sound in front on the condo complex. The breakwall makes it easy to load and unload passengers. We enjoy motoring out to Little Gasparilla Island, crusing the Intercoastal waterway, pulling the kids on tubes, and just being on the water. Micky's brother Bob brought this boat down, launched it at a nearby boat ramp, and he anchored it 20-30ft off the break wall for the weekend. The water is 18 to 30 inches deep depending on the tide.
Kayaking - With water everywhere, especially "skinny water" in the backcountry, kayaking around Boca Grand is an absolute delight. Its fun to tour in kayaks, or paddle out to Little Gasparilla Island and comb the beach for shells and sharks teeth, or to go fish the the gulfside waters for snook, redfish, and speckled sea trout. Its a special treat to have encounters with bottle-nosed dolphins and manatee.
Biking and Driving Golf Carts - A paved bike & golf cart trail runs the length on Gasparilla Island, connecting the Boca North complex with the town center of Boca Grand, 6 miles to the south. Its great fun to rent a golf cart for the weekend or bicycle to town for ice cream. Rollerblading on the bike trail is popular, also.
Fishing - There are some people who do not enjoy fishing, and, to be honest, there's a lot of poor places to fish and it can make for a frustrating experience. Consider Mrs. Howe, in this photo. She won't bait her hook. She would never touch a live fish, so, someone has to take them off the hook for her. But she REALLY loves the feeling of a fish on, and the reeling 'em in part.
The waters around Gasparilla Island and Boca Grand are just plain fantastic fishing. This is a 30 inch redfish that hit a live shrimp under a bobber, caught (and released) from a kayak about a half mile from the condo.
Just Hangin' - sure, you could play golf, or tennis, or lounge by the pool, but its hard beat just hanging out and watching the sunset, either from the beach by the sea wall or on the unit's screened porch.
Kids are OK ... they can hang with the best of 'em!
Oh! That is so cute!
